Security Unwired [Podcast]: When Technology Crosses the Front Lines

Innovation is often framed as an inherently positive force, driving progress across both public and private sectors. Yet when it intersects with defense technologies, its meaning becomes far more ambiguous. In the context of security, even the language of “innovation” blurs the line
between offense and defense, especially in complex and rapidly evolving environments. This ambiguity is compounded by structural gaps. There are still too few international treaties and global policy frameworks governing the use of AI and emerging technologies in military and law enforcement contexts.

Meanwhile, Research & Development communities and expert advisory groups are working to keep pace but often struggle to match the speed at which these technologies are advancing.

The AI race is real. But it is no longer confined to state actors alone.

Security Unwired expands that conversation. The podcast that pulls the plug on tech
buzzwords and gets real about tech in global security.

Hosted by Sarra Hannachi and supported by Mozilla Foundation, this limited series cuts straight to what matters: the tactics, ethics, safety, and human impact of AI, emerging tech, and robotics in a world where conflict, war and crisis feel like the new normal.

We’re diving into spaces where tech isn’t just cool, it’s consequential:
 AI & Tech in War and Conflict
 AI & Tech in Border Security & Migration
 AI & Tech in Humanitarian Action

At its core, Security Unwired challenges the comforting narratives and asks harder questions: Who defines what “secure” means? How does Technology make it better or worse? Who bears the risks when systems fail or are misused? And what happens when innovation outpaces accountability? By bringing together voices from across policy, research, and other practices, the podcast invites listeners to move beyond passive consumption of tech discourse and engage more critically with the forces shaping the future of international security.
