The Aula Fellowship functions as an algorithm towards our Mission to ensure that everyone can access the conversation on AI. The most important commitment of an Aula Fellows is to “affiliate” their works. This means doing what they are doing out in the world on AI, and connecting that work back to their position as an Aula Fellow. Works are the activities that connect people to the conversation on AI, which is the Mission of the Aula Fellowship. Works are as diverse and cross-sectoral as the Fellows themselves.
Affiliating 4 works per year is required for a Fellow to be in good standing. The other requirements are to be available for requests from other Fellows, to bring opportunities to Fellows, and to keep up with operations training and news. These 4 requirements empower Fellows to work together.
Affiliating their work to their Fellowship serves a few functions.
- The work that the Fellow is doing can be shared on our Works and News, on LinkedIn or by Impact Team in the podcast or newsletters.
- This makes works on AI visible to other people, so that people can see the conversation on AI as it happens in the many parts of the world and sectors of activity of the Fellows.
- Builds our community of practices where people can find each other, to work together across sectors.
- About 1/3 of works are presented publicly on the Works and News page of our website. They can be searched by sector, topic, type, or Fellow’s name. This serves as a public database for people to make connections with Fellows and their work.
- Some Fellows are on sabbatical, sick leave, semi-retirement, writing their PhDs or other special circumstances. This isn’t something we are hard about. This allows us to be flexible for the human and changing needs of Fellows and Friends of the Fellowship.
Regardless of the date they join, Fellows works may be affiliated from 2023 to date on AI, plus major works from prior to 2023 on all topics. This is because Fellows are vetted to ensure that they are doing Mission-focused work before being invited to join the Fellowship. 2023 is when we were founded.
This Spotlight on Fellowship is a part of our practice of transparency. In a digitized word, the intention is to build trust, through showing the public how we operate, so that people can work together on these important issues of ensuring that everyone can access the conversation on AI.
