Joe Houghton is an Assistant Professor of Project Management at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, where he serves as Academic Director for the MSc in Project Management programmes. Since 2005, he has also been Managing Director of Houghton Consulting, specialising in AI training and implementation for education, corporate, and nonprofit sectors.

 

An award-winning educator and best-selling author of 16 books, Joe focuses on artificial intelligence in education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and accessible online teaching. His recent publications include practical guides on AI governance in Irish finance and closing the accessibility gap through AI.

 

Beyond academia, Joe chairs the Board of Trustees at Shine, Ireland’s leading mental health organisation, and serves as a Junior Fellow of The Aula Fellowship, advocating for ethical AI use. He hosts two podcasts—ILOTA Things, exploring inclusive education, and Plus One, featuring conversations with educators across sectors.

 

Joe is also an experienced photographer and international photographic judge. Currently (Jan-Dec 2026) pursuing a Joint Masters in Advanced Digital Technology for Business just to keep up to date, he continues to explore the intersection of technology, education, and human-centred design from his base in Lucan, Ireland.
