Category: Fellow Hannah Claus

Hannah Claus is a PhD candidate in the Language Technology Lab at the University of Cambridge, where her research focuses on low-resource large language models, cultural adaptation, and the social impact of artificial intelligence. She is a Gates Cambridge Scholar and a member of the ELLIS PhD Programme, and is co-supervised at the University of Copenhagen.

Claus holds an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from Queen Mary University of London, where she was a Google DeepMind Scholar. Her research experience spans AI ethics, explainability, and robotics, including work with the Ada Lovelace Institute and the German Aerospace Center. Her current work examines data-efficient methods, transfer learning, and human–AI collaboration to improve language technologies for low-resource contexts, with an emphasis on building sustainable infrastructures in partnership with language communities and critically reassessing dominant approaches to LLM development. She is also engaged in initiatives supporting diversity and inclusion in AI research.
