Eric Famanas is a technology executive, AI researcher, and former military intelligence specialist with more than 20 years of experience spanning software engineering, artificial intelligence, signals intelligence, defence technology, and technology governance. He currently serves as Chief Technology Officer for two companies, where he leads technology strategy, software and RF engineering, cybersecurity, and the development of AI and machine-learning capabilities for large-scale operational environments.
Prior to his commercial technology career, Eric served for 12 years in the United States Navy as a cryptologist and signals intelligence specialist, leading intelligence, training, and experimental technology programmes supporting US and allied interests. He subsequently worked in the defence technology sector, product-managing RF intelligence and surveillance systems and leading multidisciplinary programmes spanning software engineering, digital signal processing, machine learning, and passive geolocation. His wider technology career has included engineering and leadership roles across financial services, SaaS, scientific computing, and large-scale data platforms.
Eric is currently undertaking a PhD in Artificial Intelligence at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, focused on AI-assisted risk estimation and decision support within software projects. His broader research interests include AI assurance and governance, representational validity, technology risk, and the application of AI within complex and high-consequence decision environments. Alongside his technical and academic work, Eric contributes to international discussions around AI governance, technology access, sustainable development, and the digital divide.
