Charles Asiegbu is an AI ethics and governance researcher with nearly a decade of cross-sector experience spanning AI policy, digital rights, climate finance, and development research. He holds an AI Ethics and Governance Fellowship at the Policy Innovation Centre and serves as Research Consultant and Acting ME&SP Manager at VIISAUS Limited, a multi-desk advisory firm where he leads policy strategy, research design, and monitoring and evaluation across Africa-focused programmes.
His research has generated documented policy and platform accountability impact: the State of Online Harms in Nigeria, conducted with Gatefield and Luminate, contributed to the removal of over 3.6 million harmful content pieces from TikTok and informed Nigeria’s Child Online Access Protection Bill (HB.244), passed by the House of Representatives in December 2025. He co-authored work on AI and policy in Africa for the Brookings Institution and has published with FATE Institute, LSE Africa at LSE Blog, and The Africa Report.
Across international clients including UNICEF, IOM, KfW, the European Union, World Bank, and British Council, Charles has led research, M&E, and strategic advisory assignments with a consistent focus on evidence quality and real-world policy uptake. He holds an MSc in International Relations (University of Abuja) and an MPA (Ahmadu Bello University), and maintains active affiliations with NESG, IFSPD Europe, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, and IRPIA. He is the founder of ResearchStake, a platform designed to improve research visibility and opportunity access for African researchers.
