Amritha Subhayan Krishnan is a scholar and practitioner working at the intersection of creative industries, emerging technologies, and cultural enterprise. With over fifteen years of experience across Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, and the Nordics, her work focuses on innovation in film, media, and cultural production systems, particularly through the application of blockchain, distributed ledger technologies, and artificial intelligence.

 

As the Founder and CEO of Smart Story Labs, headquartered at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Amritha leads transformative research into blockchain-enabled smart contracts for film production—redefining ownership, copyright, and payment systems across the cinematic value chain. She also serves as Enterprise Outreach Head at IDI-Oman’s Feature Films, fostering strategic collaborations and high-impact partnerships across regions. She is a key Editorial Board Member of both the American Journal of Artificial Intelligence and the Journal of Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Research.

 

Krishnan is an expert contributor to the European Commission, supporting the evaluation and monitoring of EU-funded innovation and digital transformation initiatives. She is also a Research Innovator representing the cultural industries at the Global Leaders’ Summit in Vienna, and an International Partner for India at the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF), affiliated with the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI). Her advisory work includes engagement with global institutions and industry platforms focused on cultural finance, media innovation, and responsible technology adoption. She teaches across business, media, and computational social science, bridging academic research with industry practice.

 

She holds a Ph.D in Media, Computing and Digital Technology from the Manchester Metropolitan University, where her research focused on the impact of blockchain-enabled smart contracts on film production and examined the barriers and opportunities for scaling into Industry 5.0.
